On October 2, 2016, John Raspado of Baguio proudly won the title of Mr Gay World Philippines and had the honor to get crowned by Mr Gay World Philippines 2015 Christian Lacsamana from Pampanga province.
The 35-year old Filipino beauty called wowed the whole event in the casual wear, talent, national costume and swimwear categories. In fact, he was also given special awards such as Best in National Costume, Best in Casual Wear, along with Mr Gay World Popularity. In May 2014, he also won It’s Showtime “I Am ProGay”, a conest that centered around Filipino gay men. In that contest, he also won Mr Photogenic, Best in National Costume, Mr Popularity and Best in Talent.
Not only is he great looking, but he’s humble and calls his win “overwhelming”. Immediately after his win, he began looking to the future and explained that his next step was being an advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness. He wants to work towards “eradicating stereotypes and creating a [more positive] image for gay men” in the Philippines.
He also explained that he had a gay brother as well, who unfortunately passed away earlier in the year from a stroke.
When asked about him John Raspado said “It breaks my heart seeing him incapable of doing things. When I was growing up, my brother’s the one [who came] to my rescue when I was bullied. Now, it is my turn to take care of him. I know he is proud of me.”
The competition was fantastic and hosted by Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry, Kristine Caballero, and Palo Bediones. It was held at the UP Theater on Sunday, October 2, 2016. The first runner up was John Bench T. Ortiz from Pangasinan and the second runner-up was Christian Khalil Gorospe Vera Cruz from Zamboanga Del Sur.
