Thanks to the #FreeMyLBGTWebsite operation, access to your favorite LGBT websites blocked by mistake by a too uptight WiFi provider should soon be restored.
This operation was initiated by misterbnb.com, which recently suffered such a ban. The point is to list innocent/inoffensive LGBT websites blocked on WiFi networks offered by airports, stores, train stations, airlines companies, hotels or any public areas.
Recently, misterbnb.com, a short term rental website, was banned on American Airlines in-flight WiFi. So was Dailyxtra.com on Tim Hortons’s free in-store WiFi networks or advocate.com and gaynz.com on McDonalds free WiFi service in New Zealand.
Most of the time, claiming no intentional misdoing, these companies blame content filters that blacklist sites en-bloc. By doing this, and by using terms surrounding gay culture to filter and block adult websites, these filters pull totally innocent sites in the net as well.
So if you think the WiFi provider you use in your airport, train station, library, university, hotel etc. is a bit too uptight about LGBT content, go to www.freemylgbtwebsite.com and report it. The team wil contact the providers and do its best to whitelist your favorite LGBT websites !
