With its tall buildings and Manhattan-like skyline, continental Europe's largest airport and the European Central Bank headquarters, Frankfurt is a extremely modern city!
But this doesn't make of Frankfurt an immense, cold and impersonal metropolis. On the contrary, it is warm, welcoming and its mainly because of its inhabitants. This does not make it the most obvious gay destination in Germany, far from Berlin's, Cologne's or even Munich's exuberance. But the gay scene exists and the great welcomeness of its inhabitants makes of Frankfurt a pleasant and friendly town where meeting people is easy and English commonly spoken.
The city has a gay area, downtown, in a triangle between Konstablerwache Bleichstrasse and Eschenheimer Turm, including a number of institutions grouped on Alte Gasse. Every July, the gay pride parade in Frankfurt (known throughout Germany as CSD) gathers about 200,000 gays and lesbians during three days of festivities. On the cultural side, the city was almost completely destroyed but the reconstruction and renovations have paid off. Impossible to miss such a rich historical heritage. Frankfurt is home to one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany.
